Saint Couch-a-Lot Class, November 18th, 2023

Couching is a technique of attaching a length of thread, cording, yarn, or ribbon onto a flat embroidery surface by making even stitches at regular intervals. This is another great technique to add to your arsenal of knowledge! We will start with a Christmas panel and add surface embellishments with yarn couching. The couching will give the panel dimension and texture.

You will want to have a braiding foot for your machine or a free-motion couching attachment, or both. Let me warn you this can be come addictive! A simple fabric panel will take on a whole new look with the added surface design. There is no right or wrong on this project you are the artist and your sewing machine and yarn are the paint brush and the paint.

What You'll Need:

• Sewing Machine
  • Extension table or accessory tray for larger surface
• Extra sewing needles
• Free-Motion Couching Foot or Braiding Foot*
• Sewing thread (various colors)
• Rotary cutter
• Small very sharp scissors for detailed cutting
• Stick pins or fabric clips
• Erasable fabric marker

*If you don't have a free-motion couching foot or a braiding foot, please let the store know as soon as possible so we can make sure we have one for you for the class.
