This bag class is for the Advanced Beginner or Intermediate Sewist. Please pre-cut your fabrics and fuse the interfacing to the necessary pieces. Instead of hand-making your straps you may also choose to use a webbing- this affects the amount of accent fabric that you need. We will have some open sewing labs where you are welcome to get help with cutting and you're also welcome to use the rulers and rotary blades during open labs.
Fabric and Supplies
Exterior Fabric: 1/2yd
Accent Fabric: 1/3yd (Includes reinforced base, handles, and strap)
Lining Fabric: 1yd (Includes interior pocket
(3/4yd if using non-directional fabric)
Fusible Woven Interfacing: 2 1/2yd
(recommend Pellon SF101 20" wide)
Hardware:
• 1" wide D-rings (2)
• 1" wide swivel clasp (2)
• 1" wide strap slider (1)
• 6" zipper for front pocket (1)
• 12" zipper for top closure (1)
Notions:
• Standard or ZigZag Foot
• Zipper Foot
• Edge Stitch Foot (recommended)
• Polyester thread to match fabric
• Water-soluble pen/Tailor's chalk
• Size 90/14 or 100/16 Denim or Microtex Needles
• Glue Pen (Optional)
A limited number of hardware kits will be available to purchase at the class (no more than $12) if you cannot find the supplies beforehand. Some notions may also be purchased at M&R Sewing and Vacuum beforehand or day of class.
• Canvas (7-9oz) for exterior fabric
• Quilting cotton for accent and lining
This is a four-week class starting February 20. Class will meet on 2/20, 2/27, 3/6, & 3/13 at 4:00pm and run about 3 hours. Each week you will work on a different aspect of the bag.
Week 1: Prepare straps, handles, D-ring holders, lining pocket
Week 2: Bag front with zipper pocket and back with slip pocket.
Week 3: Assemble bag exterior, box corners, add base and main top zipper.
Week 4: Finish final bag assembly with lining and add handles and straps.
